The Best Places To Stay For Your Grampians Elopement

There are literally oodles of places to stay in the Grampians but if you’re here for your destination wedding or elopement you don’t want run of the mill digs, especially if you’ve hiked 15 km at sunrise.

We’ve been to loads of celebrations around the Grampians and we’ve shot at heaps of bnb’s in the area. Here’s a list in no particular order of some of our faves.

  1. SALT CREEK COTTAGE, DUNKELD

Affectionately nicknamed Salty, this cosy little bnb is located in the southern Grampians in the township of Dunkeld. It’s moody yet light filled interior is styled to absolute perfection. The bathroom has heated floors, perfect for a winter elopement and the clawfoot bath is the perfect way to unwind after hiking up Mt Sturgeon or Mt Abrupt to your portrait location.

Within walking distance to the iconic and award winning Royal Mail Hotel, shops and cafes, Salty is the perfect basecamp for your elopement getaway.

2. MOUNT STURGEON COTTAGES BY ROYAL MAIL

These gems are located 3 km from Dunkeld at the base Wurgarri (Mount Sturgeon).

Perfect for those couples who want a slow and meaningful escape, there’s no television or phone. Instead, take in the area, enjoy some local gourmet eats and unwind in rustic country style.

3. VINE LODGE, SEPPELT WINES

The historic Vine Lodge Homestead is located on the grounds of Seppelt Wines. If you want style and space and to live like royalty for a few days you will love it here.

Seppelt Wines looks out over the vines and the town of Great Western, you’re a stones throw away from everything you could possibly need.

4. THE MOUNTAIN DEN, HALLS GAP

Three hours from Melbourne, set in Halls Gap, the Mountain is beautifully styled, boasts mountain views and an unbeatable location. It’s the perfect base for adventurous elopements with loads of the Grampians best hikes starting nearby, or for the comfort lovers, there’s plenty of epic portrait locations a short drive away.

The heart of Halls Gap is a 10 minute walk away and home to some great cafes and restaurants, after you’re done soaking up the attractions, kick back with a beer from one of the local breweries around the firepit.

For the outdoor lovers who can’t go past a touch of luxury, Wanderlust Glamping have you set with their bell tents and retro caravans. They can set you up at one of the region’s many campsites or if you really want to turn up the luxury they can host you at Seppelt Wines.

6. DULC Cabins, HALLS GAP

If the thought of a cosy fireplace, private spa, tranquil location and an architecturally designed masterpiece is your jam then DULC cabins in Halls Gap will be your perfect elopement home away from home.

This nature retreat is in the main tourist area of the Grampians National Park but set back in the privacy of the bush. You’re only a 5 minute drive away from loads of attractions and when you’re done soaking it all up you will love kicking back here as newlyweds.

7. HOUNDS RUN VINeYARD TINY HOUSE

Tiny house living off the grid surrounded by the most stunning views. This little gem looks out over Hounds Run Vineyard and has 360 degree views of Gariwerd and the Black Ranges.

Only 10 minutes from Great Western, you will love the slow pace this place offers after your adventure elopement.

8. GRAMPIANS PIONEER COTTAGES, HALLS GAP

In the secluded bush with epic views, this place feels so private despite being right next door to a zoo! You can literally see the giraffes!

These cottages are built from recycled materials and just oozing with rustic charm. You’ll feel right at home by the fireplace or watching the sun set over the mountain.
