Rainy Day Wedding Tips
When you chose 2022/2023 for your wedding to avoid covid but ended up with a La Niña instead, amiright?!
Not to worry though because with proper planning, rainy day weddings are a vibe!
Consider an indoor wedding
If you’re prone to getting stressed out then save yourself the drama early on and get hitched inside! It’s not for everyone but there’s some incredible venues around with beautiful indoor spaces, check out The Art Gallery of Ballarat for a city wedding or Cave Hill Creek for something out of town.
have a Plan B
A little bit of rain never hurt anybody but a drenching can certainly halt an outdoor ceremony. Go into your wedding with a backup option just incase and make sure your vendors are all over it.
Bonus tip: hire a wedding coordinator or choose a venue that has one so if things needs to change at the last minute you’ve got someone ready to make it happen for you. My fav is Bonnie from Gathered Events.
Check vendor policies
Some vendors might need to be factored into the backup plan more than others, your band or DJ might have in their contract that they need hard flooring and to be fully undercover or your videographer probably won’t be able to fly their drone in the rain. Ask them about their wet weather policies when you meet with them so you can plan accordingly.
Marquees are life
If you’re having a pop up wedding on private property or somewhere with no wet weather option then consider hiring a marquee, they add such a vibe to weddings and they still give you the feeling of being outdoors if you choose one with clear sides.
We love Elderberry Events and Twilight Glamping.
Clear umbrellas for photos
You don’t have to miss out on photos just because it’s raining, clear umbrellas and moody skies add so much to your photos you’ll be glad it rained!
Keep your guests comfy
If you’re getting married in Ballarat then you already know there’s a chance it could rain no matter which season you choose for your wedding so having some options on hand to keep your guests comfy is a no brainer. Having some umbrellas or ponchos around to keep them dry and some blankets about to keep them warm will add to the good vibes.
We loved this coat rack set up by Elderberry Events at Julz and Park’s wedding.
Weatherproof your outfit
If you’re wearing a dress opt for something short or consider an outfit change later in case you get absolutely drenched, it happens! Same for your shoes! Consider the possibility that it might be cold as well so a warm jacket will keep your mood high.
If you’re having your hair done, as much as I love loose curls and Hollywood waves the weather can wreak havoc on them! Going for an updo will keep you looking flash all day.
Embrace that shit
There’s a whole lot of stuff that goes into planning a wedding but the one thing you can’t control is the weather! Use these tips to keep stress levels low but whatever will be will be! At the end of the day the one goal you had for the day is to end up married and that’s what you’re gonna get!
